About

The East Midlands Region

The East Midlands Region brings together local u3as across Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire to promote learning, friendship and active later life. We exist to help local u3as work together, share resources and ideas, and to make sure members have a voice at national level through their Council Representatives. Visit the Council Representative page for more details here:

Our purpose

  • Support the u3a movement - enable u3as in the East Midlands to work together to further its principles, aims and activities.
  • Support collaboration — encourage cooperative activities, shared learning and regional projects that complement what individual u3as do.
  • Support the Council Representatives - provide a clear route for u3as and their members to communicate their views to the Council of The Third Age Trust.

What we do

  • Regional events and workshops that bring members from different u3as together.
  • Shared learning and research projects that enable groups to work cooperatively on topics of common interest.
  • Practical support and guidance for new and existing u3as on governance, best practice and running activities.
  • Communicate updates and information regarding Council Representatives, regional developments and network activity.

County Networks

The Region is organised into County Networks to make collaboration manageable across our geography. Some networks maintain their own websites and news pages to showcase local activity. Find out more on the Network pages.

About the u3a movement

The u3a movement offers opportunities for older people and those with spare time to learn, socialise, and pursue new interests. Each local u3a is independently run under the umbrella of the Third Age Trust, which supports and advises the movement nationally. “Learn, Laugh and Live” reflects the spirit of the movement.
