Meet your Council Representatives
Rosie Allen was appointed as an East Midlands u3a Council Representative on 1 April 2026.
Rosie Allen is a founding member of Arnold u3a and a retired teacher who has served as Membership Secretary, Vice‑Chair, Chair, and Nottinghamshire Network Chair. Currently Rosie is the Support Officer.
A trainer and mentor who helped start five u3as, she champions regional development, member listening, and stronger local collaboration.
John Butler was appointed as an East Midlands u3a Council Representative on 1 April 2026.
A long‑standing member of Ravenshead u3a John has served as Publicity Officer, Business Secretary, Chair, and Chair of the Nottinghamshire Network, and is lead volunteer for the Let’s Talk Tech Subject Network.
He champions short‑term, flexible volunteering and will focus on listening to local u3as and bringing their views to the national Council.

About the Third Age Trust
The Third Age Trust is the umbrella organisation for the u3a movement. It comprises the Board which is responsible for governance and formal decision-making and the Council.
About the u3a Council
The Council plays a key role within the Third Age Trust by gathering and representing the views of members across the movement. It provides a forum for discussion, helping to inform and influence the development and direction of u3a, ensuring that members’ voices are heard.

About the Regions and Nations
The UK u3a movement is divided into twelve geographic regions and nations. These include nine regions in England, plus Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
Purpose of the regions
- All u3as belong to a region.
- Every region and nation is represented on the u3a Council by elected Council Representatives.
- These representatives act as a link between local u3as and the national Board of Trustees, ensuring member views feed into national decision‑making.
- Regions also support informal Networks of u3as that share best practice and collaborate locally.
